The default approach to any sensing challenge is to install as many measuring devices as possible. If a city would like to count vehicles parked in a given area, they usually equip each parking lot with one occupancy sensor. This solution provides precise real-time data but apart from that is far from optimal. Monitoring of the whole city center requires huge initial investment in hardware.
It gathers the data with a speed proportional to its velocity.
If higher “refresh rate” is needed, one can easily increase the number of sensor carriers (scalability similar to “pay-as-you-go” cloud infrastructure).
